Giuseppe Battiston – Actor I first read the script and then the novel. I did not want to be influenced by the script, I wanted the script to help me; it's only then that I had a look at the novel. In order to interpret the character I had to work on his nastiness, his rude aspect, the fact that he feels ill at ease; and since some passages of the novel stroke me regarding his relationships with others, I thought that we could point out the way in which he views the world. Cristina thought about it and wrote a small monologue for Negri at the end of the film which I found very deep and gave me, if not to the film economy, the real sense of this man's story. According to me, this is only possible if a high level of trust exists between two persons. I never met Cristina before, I met her during the tests for the film, it was therefore easy to imagine that it would take time to get to know each other, but on the contrary we got on beautifully well together.
