Lori Andrews – author "The Clone Age" I'm an American lawyer who took the Bar exam the day Louise Brown, the first test tube baby was born. So I've been involved with reproductive technologies almost since the beginning. And I've had a concern about the fact that in the US at least they are hardly regulated at all. Its possible for a child to have up to six parents - the sperm donor, the egg donor, the surrogate or husband, the rearing couple. And yet the law doesn't have a clear approach to what happens especially when something goes wrong. And often things go wrong. There's some data suggesting that children born through invitro-fertilization and EXSI have a higher chromosomal abnormality rate. We see sperm banks being operated without sufficient screening of the donors and so women have actually got infectious diseases, their children are born with genetic defects cause their donor wasn't screened. And so as a lawyer I've been concerned with getting the appropriate regulation for reproductive technologies. Like getting involved in a documentary is one way to get the word out and have an impact on lawmakers and the public who can see behind closed door what reproductive technologists are actually doing.
