“I wrote the book in 1996. Immediately after the book was published Robert Jan, the director, asked me to make a movie out of it. Robert Jan asked me to approve all the changes. I'm very satisfied with the script.
Robert Jan thinks in the spirit of the book and acts in the spirit of the book. I'm very happy with Kim van Kooten playing Phileine, because I think she is one of the best actresses in Holland. I'm very very happy with Max, played by Michiel Huisman. He is a young actor and he has got the power and the soul and the mind. He is very good. There is no problem with the talking in the movie... but the thinking, that's the real problem. And Robert Jan solved this problem by making her (Phileine) talk to the camera. So she tells the spectator what’s going on inside her head. She talks directly to the viewer and then turns back to the other characters. We have plans for things in the future. Again about relationships, about people of our age experiencing the difficulties of people of our age.”
